Enfield Mormons: Missed blog opportunity

It was only after I’d said “Sorry mate, no thanks” and started walking away, that I realised I should have stopped and listened to what the man had to say, if only for its comedy blog entry potential. Unfortunately, when a young, smartly-dressed, American chap approached me in the street this lunchtime with the opening gambit: “excuse me, we’re from the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day…”, I didn’t even let him get out the rest of the name before I’d, in retrospect possibly rather rudely, stopped him and walked away. It was so utterly unexpected, though, that it rather threw me off. I’ll try to do better next time so I have some amusing anecdote to relate.

Then again, it’s rather arrogant of me, I suppose, to assume he wanted to save me. Maybe he was just asking directions. Sadly, I’ll never know.

Actually, now I think about it, Enfield town at lunchtime could be a veritable mine of comic potential. One day last week I walked past the tramp who stands behind Marks & Spencers to see him holding court to three young lads–can of special brew in one hand, talking very loudly and forcibly about something or other.

If only I’d stopped and listened–I went past him today, but now that half term is over, he was just standing there on his own.

Another missed opportunity.

Now Matt, mormons are not all crazy kooks.
And if they were American and young then they were probably on their ” 1 year mission”. They go out and learn about the world in a clean manner and spread the Good Word.

OMG–that tramp is hilarious. Once he had a conversation with me forever about the recording industry, then all of a sudden started talking about his MASSIVE COCK, then went back to normal. Surreal.

I try to avoid him when I can.

Well that just gives me all the more reason to go and talk to him next time I’m passing.
