  1. I saw this a couple of days ago over at Hecklerspray where this wretched individual’s effort is described as “an appallingly cynical tune-turd, curled out over the heads of a grieving public with all the tact and grace of a wolf savaging a playground”. I can’t add much to that, save that this is feeble exploitation that makes me nauseous. People he doesn’t know probably are trying to kill him – suicide bombers but also people who know him by name and have no interest in killing anybody else.

  2. It is also worth noting that the only “article” in the articles section on the website is written by the “The Ghost Who Walks” himself. He appears to be a music journalist who writes for the Telegraph.

It’s all so wrong, in many, many ways.

In case anyone is in any doubt, here are some selected quotes from the Telegraph articles. Some things defy comment:

“I bashed it out in rough form on an acoustic guitar to my friend Bono one night and he became very animated… He even suggested that U2 might record it as a B-side.”

“I took a deep breath and started calling everybody I knew in the music business… I thought of Bob Geldof and the phone book with which he set up Live Aid.”

“David Gray said I could mix in his studio, which would be free on the weekend.”

“Perhaps Bono put it best. It doesn’t exactly hurt your cause when the world’s biggest rock star offers unqualified support and I know he has been putting in calls in the background, helping this venture move along.”
